Practical notes for road trips and daily charging.
| Stall power | Model 3 / Y | Model S / X |
|---|---|---|
| 150 kW | 18–25 min | 25–35 min |
| 250 kW | 12–18 min | 18–25 min |
| 350 kW | 10–15 min | 15–22 min |
Times vary with battery temperature, state of charge, and site conditions. These are typical road-trip ranges, not peak numbers.
Charging slows a lot after 80%. On a trip it is usually faster to stop more often and leave with a lower charge than to wait for a full battery.
A 150 kW stall adds roughly 100–150 miles in 15–20 minutes on most cars. Higher-power stalls are faster, but the car’s charge curve still limits the peak.
Try another stall at the same site first. If the whole site is offline, the next station on your route is usually a short drive away.
Keep daily charging below 90% unless you need the range. Precondition the battery before arrival at a Supercharger when the car offers it.
Most stops are 15–25 minutes. Check the nearby food or restroom options before you pull in so you are not waiting with nothing to do.
Range drops in the cold. Leave earlier and plan shorter hops. The car will warm the battery if you set the destination to a Supercharger.
